IRC Guide

The following guide will help you get, install and use mIRC. What is mIRC and why you should use it?

IRC means 'Internet Relay Chat'. It is a series of chat rooms on a number of servers used for socializing and meeting with like minded individuals. This is where most the socializing in the DB is done and one of our three biggest methods of mass communication, the other two being yahoo groups and Message boards.
mIRC resembles to MSN, ICQ or yahoo, but it’s different because you can chat with much more people at once, in different rooms.

mIRC is very important for your progress within the DB. Through this chat program you can meet your clan mates other DB members or recruit new people. With mIRC you can obtain or transmit information faster. With the aid of channel topics you can transmit or get information easier than you would by email.
Also mIRC is the best way to organize multiplayer games (JK, JO, JA, XWA, XvT, RC etc.) with your fellow Gladius members or others from the DB.

In a few words mIRC is the key in meeting people, making new friends and having fun.

With that being said it’s time to move on the useful part :p.

Getting mIRC

To download mIRC go to http://www.mirc.com/get.html and on this page choose a download link that it’s closer to you. More closer, the faster the download…in general :).
After that, you are prompted to choose an installation folder. Pick one and remember it. Because after you finish the download you need the kit to install the program.

Installing mIRC

<<<Choose an instalation folder, check or uncheck the options you want and hit "install".

Follow the instructions of the install program and choose your install directory. This directory will also hold anything you download from IRC and any logs you keep. Once your settings are in place hit Install and it will install mIRC onto your computer. It should install quickly since it’s a small program (it takes less then 2 MB’s of space).

<<<If you've done what I've told this is how it should look.

Running mIRC

Now that you have installed it, look for the desktop icon to launch it or find it in Start Menu/Program Files/mIRC/mIRC.exe and execute it.

<<<Nice wallpaper, no? :)

<<<Ignore this window and hit continue.

In the starting box it is not necessary to put in your actual name neither your real email but you could take as an example the way I do it(optimal):

<<<This is an example on how it should be done.

In the "Servers" box, scroll through the numerous networks until you find the one called Undernet. Undernet is the network used by all Brotherhood channels. Select Undernet for your IRC Network on the “IRC Server:” drop list choose “Undernet: Random EU server” if you are in Europe, or choose “Undernet: Random US server” if you are in the United States. I chose a specific server because it’s near me and it connects faster, but that doesn’t necessarily happen all the time.

<<<Now that you've done all the selections hit the Connect to Server button.

Joining a channel

So if you’re connected it should look like this and this window should pop up:

Using this window you can add channels that you want to join and you can also use that auto join feature like shown in this picture:

<<<thicking "Join on connect" will get you in that channel automatically, everytime you connect.

When you have finished entering the chanells name hit "Join" and you will enter the desired channel.

Another way to join a channel is to type “/join #Tarentum” in the main window and voila you’re connected.

Welcome to Tarentum.

Other must join channels are:
#DB
#Tarentum
#krath
#Obelisk
#sith
#GMRG
#outerrim
